Easy peasy: Tiny & cute Cupcake Marshmallows

Easy peasy: Tiny & cute Cupcake Marshmallows

Hi everyone, a new week is about to start and I hope everyone of you had a tremendous weekend!

When I did my Easter baking last week…something caught my eye…I noticed something I should have noticed way earlier!
Because as far as I know, I have never seen it before?!

Just when I was frosting various spring cupcakes, I clapped my eyes on my glass container that contained mini marshmallows.
And I talked to myself: This is it!

Little, tiny mini marshmallows frosted with a cute, nice buttercream swirl: Mini Cupcakes!

As soon as I thought that I grabbed a small star tip, filled up my icing bag with red/pinkish frosting and piped little swirls on the marshmallows.
And I totally loved them, they look so cute, just like tiny cupcakes, plus they tasted delicious!

Now I am sharing my lovely buttercream creamcheese frosting recipe with you, so you can make those mini cupcakes with a delicious marshmallow taste as well.
No baking involved, yay!

  • Prep Time 10 minutes
  • Difficulty Easy peasy

For the Frosting:

  • 2 cups sifted confectioners sugar (icing or powdered)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • If desired: Food coloring

Marshmallows as well,
go buy some marshmallows before you make the frosting =)

  • 1. In an electric mixer or with your hand mixer, cream the butter until it is very smooth and fluffy.
  • 2. Now, add the vanilla extract. On low speed, gradually beat in the icing sugar. Don’t forget to scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  • 3. Now add the cream cheese and beat on high speed until your frosting is all light and fluffy. (3mins) – I would suggest to give it a taste, if the frosting is still too sweet for you, then the milk comes into play. Gradually add milk, bit by bit, beat the frosting and taste again. Make sure it does not become too soft and runny because you still want to frost your marshmallows – so it has to have a good consistency (not too thin!)
  • 4. If your frosting is too runny, just add in a little bit more icing sugar. If you like the taste and consistency, tint your frosting with your desired food coloring. I usually use brands such as Wilton, Americolor or Sugarflair.
  • Now fill your piping bag with your frosting and frost nice swirls on top of your marshmallows.

And there you have it: Cute little Cupcake Marshmallows, the easy peasy way.
And so tiny!

A guaranteed eye-catcher!

Wishing you all a great week,
niner

  6. How long does the frosting last out the refrigerater if I do not add cream cheese? My buttercream holds the shape about two hours only and it melts:(

Thanks for posting I have learned a lot basics decoration with you!

    • Hi Fernanda, without cream cheese, it would last way longer than two hours, even with cream cheese. I wonder how much you put in there?
It would definitely last two or three days.
Hope you will try again :)
      Many blessings,
      niner

  7. hi!!! I’m trying to do elmo and cookie monster marshmallow pops but im having trouble with gluing arms and legs what kind of strong glue can I use for this? and is melted chocolate one of them?

    • Hi Gaby,
I always use candy melts (melted chocolate) to attach candy etc. on cake pops, this is the best way for me.
      Wish you a lovely day,
      niner

    • Hi Chobella,
      thanks for your comment :)
You can use salted butter too, it does make a little difference though, but I am sure it will be just fine.
Your English is great by the way :)
      Happy Baking to you!

  9. Hi!
I have been wanting to try and make colored frosting, and I think I have found the perfect recipe to try :)
I was just wondering though, can I use this same recipe if I wanted to make “flavored” frosting like chocolate or peanut butter or even Nutella? :) Or do you have a different recipe for those?

    Thanks!
