Colorful Ghana Flag themed Cake Pops

Colorful Ghana Flag themed Cake Pops

Hey everyone, I wish you guys a great start into the week!!

Hope you all had an awesome weekend.
I certainly did!
We were celebrating our dearest friends’ birthday, his name is Jeff and he turned 27.
Since he is from Ghana, his girlfriend Kris and I thought it would be nice to give him something that reminds him of it. So I planned to make Cake Pops in the colors of the Ghana flag. The Ghana flag was officially adopted on March 6, 1957. And March 6th is Ghana’s official Independence Day, so I think these Ghana themed Cake Pops would be perfect to make on that day (this year I was late hehe) and maybe I inspire some people to do so with this post.

I also made Cupcakes with yummy BEN & JERRY’S Ice Cream because he really LOVES it. And by LOVE it I mean he really adores it, he eats it all the time and always keeps a container in his refrigerator because “you never know”.
And to make it more personal, I made Cupcake wrappers and toppers in the BEN & JERRY’S look but with phrases from our favourite show:
How I Met Your Mother.
You have to know, we call eachother bro’s, quote many situations of that show when we are together, so it was only right and SO much fun to do this. We are all Barney fans.

I also made him a cake. I used black fondant to cut out the star for the flag.

See this cute happy birthday cake with the colorful candles?
My friend Kris made it for her boyfriend Jeff :-) It’s a marzipan cake. So cute and yummm!!

Article 12 of the “Bro Code”:
Bro’s do not share dessert.
– That fit perfectly to this special birthday! :-)
But: We did not stick to this though…

Article 8 of the “Bro Code”:
A bro never sends a greeting care to another bro
.
Well…as you can see, we did not follow any of the rules that day :D

I made a new rule cupcake topper: Forget about Articles 8 and 12 :D It’s your b-day, bro!!

Read on to get the recipe and to see more pictures.

  • Prep Time 20 minutes
  • Baking Time 10 minutes in refrigerator
  • Difficulty Easy

For the Cake Pops:

  • Prepare yourself before you actually start. Get everything out on the counter you need, so you do not stress yourself in the middle of the decorating process :-)
  • 1. Now, make the NO BAKE Cake Pops: Grind your Oreo cookies to fine crumbs in a food processor
  • 2. Put the crumbmix into a boal and hand mix with cream cheese. I use gloves though, because it gets messy :-) Especially when you have longer nails, it takes a while to be “oreo/creamcheese-free” again. So just use gloves, or when you have kids, I am sure they would love to help you with this step :-)
  • 3. Keep in mind that the dough should have the consistency of play-dough.
  • 4. Roll the dough into 1? balls, then refrigerate them for at least 10 minutes to firm up.
  • 5. Now melt your candy wafers.
  • 6. Dip a little bit of the lollipop stick in the melted candy, then stick the lollipop stick in the Cake Pop (half way) and dip the Cake Pop in the melted candy wafers.
  • 7. Now you can add sprinkles, sanding sugar or anything else etc. to decorate. Don’t wait too long, otherwise it won’t stick to the base. Merckens Candy Melts dry pretty quickly, so that is why I should not wait too long.
  • 8. When you’re done with deocrating, put it in a styrofoam block to let these cute cake pops dry completely.
  • 9. Get it started. Have fun decorating and enjoy your Cake Pops and maybe give some away :-)

This is us. We all had lots of sugar so..excuse the faces :D

By the way, these would be also fun to make for kids’ birthday parties, or even for a school event because these Cake Pops look so much like traffic lights without the black fondant star. :-)

Hope you are having a wonderful day,
niner

p.s. if you want the printables for the cupcake wrappers and toppers, send me a message via the contact form :-)

  7. Hi Niner…just RANDOMLY came across your page and I’m SOOO glad I did. I’m super impressed with your Ghana cake pops. I am actually leaving for Ghana in 2 weeks to build & install a rain harvesting system in the Denchira village so that they have clean drinking water. We have a fundraiser next weekend…and I’m thinking about doing these cake pops. Where did you find the candy stars? I’ve never made cake pops before…so any extra details aside from the recipe would be greatly appreciated :)

    • Hi there Jack, thanks so much for stopping by =) Thanks for your kind words on my Ghana Cake Pops. So awesome that you are helping and installing a rain harvesting system, that’s just so ..wow! These people are so lucky! The candy stars, well I made those with fondant, black fondant. I rolled it out and cut them out with a star cookie cutter, very easy. Just order black fondant and buy a star cookie cutter. How to make cake pops, please have a look on my blogpost here.
Would you share photos in case you are making the pops? You can send them to my facebook fanpage if you want to.
Would love to hear about how it went in Ghana. Many blessings!! niner
