Halloween Pumpkin Cake Pops and Candy Corn Cake Bites

Halloween Pumpkin Cake Pops and Candy Corn Cake Bites

It’s Monday, it’s cold out here and it just feels like fall already. Summer officially said goodbye to Germany.
But to be honest, I love it when it is not that hot because I am… a hoodie addict. I just love to wear them, day in, day out. Another good thing about fall is: baking is so much easier then.
I couldn’t wait until September or even October. Just had to make some Halloween/Candy Corn themed Cake Pops and Cake Bites.

Let’s go back a couple of weeks though:
I tried Halloween Cake Pops before and I bought these edible ink pens and thought: “Of course these will work and I can’t wait to try it out!”
So I made Cake Pops, many of them, many cute orange Cake Pops waiting to get “tattooed”. But no, not this time. I tried everything but the ink pen was not cooperating! It just didn’t work at all.
And I was frustrated, of course. I was so in the mood to get all creative, such a bummer.
I did some researching, and many many people use the brand Americolor, so I thought I’d give it a try and order them from the UK (here in Germany these are hard to get).

So I did a new batch of Cake Pops (the previous batch was gone within a few days, my boyfriend and family LOVE them) and I was really not that convinced that I would be lucky this time.
But hey, I was! It worked just fine.

So here a couple of notes from me (troubleshooting):

  • Americolor Ink Pens work best if your candy coating is dry.
  • Sometimes when you have stored them in the refrigerator, you need to let them chill to room temperature a bit until it works to paint on them well.
  • If you use vegetable oil to make your candy coating thinner, it can cause that the pen won’t really draw well on the Cake Pop because it is too oily.
  • What is best to use are Paramount Crystals. With these you can thin your candy coating without having an oily texture in the end and drawing on Cake Pops won’t be a problem at all.
  • As for now I highly recommend Americolor Edible Ink Pens.

Enough with the trouble :-) Read on to make these Cake Pops yourself and to see more pictures.

  • Prep Time 20 minutes
  • Baking Time 10 minutes in refrigerator
  • Difficulty Easy

For the Cake Pops:

  • 1 package OREO cookies
  • 1 8oz. package cream cheese
  • Candy Melts (orange, yellow and white) – I use Merckens and Wilton Candy Melts von meincupcake.de (Super Onlineshop!)
  • Black Edible Ink Pen (I prefer Americolor)
  • Lollipop Sticks
  • Additional Items you may want to get:

  • Sanding sugar for decorating
  • Lollipop plastic covers
  • ribbon for tying

  • Prepare yourself before you actually start. Get everything out on the counter you need, so you do not stress yourself in the middle of the decorating process :-)
  • 1. Now, make the NO BAKE Cake Pops: Grind your Oreo cookies to fine crumbs in a food processor
  • 2. Put the crumbmix into a boal and hand mix with cream cheese. I use gloves though, because it gets messy :-) Especially when you have longer nails, it takes a while to be “oreo/creamcheese-free” again. So just use gloves, or when you have kids, I am sure they would love to help you with this step :-)
  • 3. Keep in mind that the dough should have the consistency of play-dough.
  • 4. Roll the dough into 1? balls, then refrigerate them for at least 10 minutes to firm up.
  • 5. Now melt your orange candy wafers.
  • 6. Dip a little bit of the lollipop stick in the melted candy, then stick the lollipop stick in the Cake Pop (half way) and dip the Cake Pop in the melted candy wafers.
  • 7. When you’re done, put it in a styrofoam block to let these cute Halloween cake pops dry completely.
  • 8. Draw-time: Once the Cake Pops are completely dry, you can start drawing the pumpkin halloween faces with your edible ink pen.
  • 9. And you’re done :-) What I also did was to coat several cake pops (and Cake Bites) in Candy Corn colors, take a look at the pictures.

See the drippy Cake Pops? I just LOVE drips. I used to spraypaint when I was younger and I always loved painting and sketching drips. So in baking…I still do it :-)

See…it isn’t really a spooky, creepy, scary face… I just can’t do it. I can’t watch scary movies at all or anything that deals with horror or creepy stuff So I made some rather friendly looking Halloween Cake Pops :-)

Candy Corn themed Cake Pops and Cake Bites fit perfectly, so I put it all in one blogpost.

another drippy one…

mmhmmm these cute cake balls are gone in a second.

Wishing you all a great week and I can’t to see the web full of awesome looking Halloween treats the next weeks :-)
