DIY: Make your own Cupcake Toppers (free printable)

DIY: Make your own Cupcake Toppers (free printable)

This is what happens when you all want to make everything yourself: You design and craft cute cupcake toppers for a huge birthday party and when the day comes you forget to even stick them in the cupcakes :-)
This happened to me on Kris’ golden and violet birthday party. I had way too much on my mind and when the party was over I found my little bag with all the cupcake toppers, waiting for their performance.
It was funny though!

Anyway, here is how to make them, it is SO easy.
Once you have a certain design you like, just print it out (make sure the measurements are exact though) and cut it out.

Please read on to see more photos the how to instructions.

  • Design Time depends: when you have free printables, no design time at all
  • Prep Time 30min – 1 hour (cutting out)
  • Difficulty Easy

For the Cupcake Toppers you need:

  • Cut out designs (craft paper)
  • lollipop sticks
  • tape (you can use hot glue as well)
  • paper punches (I used circle and flower shaped punches)
  • pair of scissors
  • This is bascially how you will do it:
  • Take your printed out craft paper with the designs on it and cut out the paper circles, with scissors or with the paper punches. I used two different ones, a circle one and a flower one – both 2 inches.
  • Now stick the lollipop stick on the back with tape.
  • And there you have it! Isn’t it so easy?
  • Now you just have to bake some cupcakes and stick the cupcake toppers right in there.
  • Then it looks like this. All done. Party on :-)

Here are the various designs I made for the birthday party.
Since we all love the show How I Met Your Mother, there had to be at least one “Barney” Cupcake Toppers saying how legendary tonight will be :-)

A monogramed cupcake topper with the letter K, stands for Kris of course.

and many many others…

and more…HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRIS :-)

If you like my cupcake toppers, why don’t you download them? I am sure someone has a birthday soon

Here is the free printable (zip) for you, just click on the image:

Enjoy :-)

  1. Oh!!! I am a clumsy, but it would be nice to make some for Christmas! And your history it’s funny!!!
I also forget important things. Once I made rosemary crackers… and I forget to add the rosemary…
It also happen with a basil pizza, I see the basil in the fridge next day, when I was going to have breakfast.
But life is funnier this way!! Is there anything more fun to laugh at yourself??
    Besos!!!

  5. Hi these cake toppers are amazing!

Are they still available as a free printable? (when I click on the picture it can’t find them)

If they are they would be perfect to use for my partner’s 30th birthday party.

Look forward to hearing from you

  8. I really love the design with the blue dots around the border! Where did you get that or where did you design it?? We have a huge party coming up and want to use that template with another saying on it!

  9. Hi,
The color is suppose to be blue right? But when I download it, its actually purple. Have opened it in 3 different computers and it still purple, but was hoping it was like the picture. :(

    • Hi Dayli,
in the photos they have a blue touch, thats right. But I made these for a friends birthday who’s fav color is gold/purple, the design is purple indeed.
Hope you can still use it. If not, sorry for the inconvenience :(
      Have a great day,
      niner

  10. Can the normal printer be used to print on the thick craft paper? Also what kidnof paper gives a glossy finish?

  11. Hi! Can you tell me if you have printables with a black and gold design? Birthday themed; it’s a 70th birthday :)

    Thanks-

  12. Hi there,

i love these graphics for cupcake toppers! I’d love to tailor them for my daughter’s cross country team that is having a party. Is it possible to get the editable file so I can change the text? Lovely post–thanks!

  13. Thanks so much! My daughter wants shopkins theme and now I feel I could make them!

  14. Just a suggestion instead of pop sticks….tooth pics works just fine and it is much more cost effective and light weight on cupcakes! I find it way easy to use tooth picks <3
